Vector conversion of maps:

The maps are drawn with elements separated on to different layers as per clients requirements and feed the data into the database.

The vector information would be output as ESRI Shapefiles, which is actually two files:   
* .shp - the file that stores the feature geometry  
* .dbf - the dBASE, or database, file that stores the attribute information of features
